Ride Right Launches TAPTCO Training Platform

At Ride Right, thoroughly training our drivers is one of our top priorities in our efforts to achieve our vision of every trip is important. As we continue to improve our training methods to ensure we provide safe, quality transit services to our ridership, Ride Right recently launched a new training platform from TAPTCO (The Transit and Paratransit Company). TAPTCO is an award-winning driver training program that focuses on changing driver behavior to avoid accidents, deliver professionalism, ensure better performance, and keep everyone—drivers and passengers—safe. Superior customer service training with an emphasis on empathy and the special needs of our passengers is a large focus of the new training. Courses are built around high quality driver and passenger safety videos, role play scenarios, and behind-the-wheel training, all of which aim to engage trainees and provide effective learning.

Ride Right’s Director of Safety and Training Tom Greufe tailored the TAPTCO system to best meet the needs of our clients and passengers. Our new 12-day training program consists of 96 dedicated training hours, exceeding TAPTCO’s standard recommended 72 hour program. A small sample of the TAPTCO topics and videos deployed in the training include:

  • Introduction to Professional Driving
  • Creating a Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace
  • Fatigue Management
  • Safety Best Practices
  • Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections
  • Preventing Distractions
  • Pedestrian and Bicycle Awareness
  • Merging, Lane Changing, and Passing

In addition to this classroom-based learning, prior to driving on the street in a Ride Right vehicle, trainees must successfully complete a closed-course skills test through traffic cones using special vehicle maneuvers. This course helps drivers learn to operate a large vehicle safely and more accurately.

Ride Right began deploying TAPTCO training for our fixed route and paratransit drivers in all locations on July 17. We’re excited to enhance our training program and better serve our passengers with this best-in-class approach!
